Today's Done Good.

Day Two of Daddy working in Las Vegas and Gabe and I are starting to cross items of fun off our lists aptly titled: "Things to Keep Us Busy While Daddy Is Gone So We Don't Miss Him Too Much." What I am calling my list is: "Ideas to Keep You Out Of the House, Off of the Couch, and Avoid Sinking Into Lonely Depression." But that's too much for Gabe to say in one mouthful.

It has been a (surprisingly) wonderful Tuesday and Wednesday. After going to Astoria Park yesterday morning, we drove up to see our buddy Beth in New Rochelle and walked around the beautiful neighborhood she lives in ("Nanny country." Her employers are double attorneys for firms in midtown.) It had rained all day Sunday and Monday so the greenery and flowers were in full bloom that afternoon. The houses are in the million-dollar range, and we had a great time picking out which ones we'd live in if only we had a million dollars. We picked a few flowers off the trees and Gabe figured out that there weren't any crosswalks to stop at and people actually drove slow.

We then grabbed a light lunch and headed home, just as the rain began. We used the day's blessing of sunshine quite wisely. Robin stopped over later that evening for pizza and a movie, Gabe headed for his train sets until bedtime, and I closed my eyes around 10 p.m. with a feeling of, "Today Done Good."

This morning we headed to the Upper West Side, where I picked up a cradle swing for Ana, a $150 value for $25, only slightly used (thank you, craigslist.org). Then I took Gabe to the Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) on W. 83rd. I always look for famous people there, since many times you'll see pics of famous mommies exiting the place with their tots. (Michelle Williams was recently in People.) No celebrity sightings to report today. But since it was so beautiful out, CMOM opened their WaterWorks display that is outside, and Gabe had a blast. It was so great to sit on a bench, sun my face, and watch how smart and fun my blossoming man-child is.

Afterwards, we headed to Artie's Delicattessan because Gabe wanted a hot dog and I was dying to sit down. Then to a boutique for sunglasses (mine broke, sadly, in a toddler-gone-mad incident).  Then to pick up the car at the parking garage. As I drive out and head home, the skies crack open and it starts pouring. Another great use of a half-great weather day. I just pulled my homemade banana bread out of the oven and around 6 we'll head over to Robin's for dinner and I hope to close my eyes again around 10 p.m. and be proud of a "Today Done Good."

Great picture of a beautiful little boy!!! I'm in a blue funk today. I'm grateful I can work to keep my mind off of my loneliness.
