It Sounded (and tasted) Like a Good Idea...

For our Memorial Day post-beach picnic, we picked up a special something that Manny and I sometimes crave: Birthday Cake. Our local grocer sells little unmarked circle-cakes; our favorite is vanilla cake with vanilla icing, sprinkles are extra special.

Surprisingly, the cake made it until Thursday, where a few slices remained. Gabe had peered into the refrigerator this afternoon and spotted what was left. "Can I have cake?! Can I have cake?!" he asked. I told him that as long as he ate a good, healthy lunch, he could have a piece as an afternoon snack (which usually consists of fruits or yogurt, so this was a big deal).

About 20 minutes after Gabe polished off his slice and practically licked the plate, Manny came home from work and was shocked to find Gabe absolutely bouncing off the walls. He is a very high-energy kid (what almost-4 year old isn't, really?) but this was something we hadn't seen in months, possibly a year... Like, the last time he had birthday cake: June 22, 2008.

I couldn't figure out why he was acting so crazy, "cabin fever?" I thought, since it has been raining the last two days. Then it hit me: "I gave him cake today."
"You did what?!?!?!" Manny asked, shocked and confused as to why I would such a thing.
"I forgot what it does to him, I'm sorry, he was just so good for me today and I told him he could have a piece for his afternoon snack."
Manny looked at me as if to say, "Glad I'm working this evening..." but did his part in wearing him out for me while he was home in between shifts.

The video is a quick 1:37 clip, although it could have gone on... Much. Longer.
