Someone want to hire him? Vern's blog debut.
This past weekend one of our best buds from Franciscan, Vern, came up to interview for a position that recently opened up in the editorial department at The Tablet. I recommended him for it, and my editor brought him on Monday for a good talkin-to and, fingers crossed, we get to see more of Vern in NYC! (Right now he is residing in Baltimore.) Hopefully he gives Vern a call in the coming weeks and offers him the position!
So as any good friend would do, we threw a minor get-together on Saturday evening that included a 12-pack of Stella Artois (mmmm) and a bottle of Greygoose, thinking a few vodka's and Perrier would whet our palette, as it is quickly becoming my summer drink of choice. A special treat is a splash of cranberry and a hint of lime. Are you thirsty yet?
Well, the boys were incredibly excited to see each other, as we hadn't seen Vern since our wedding weekend almost four (FOUR!) years ago. Around 3 a.m. we realized it was, well, 3 a.m. and that all of the alcohol was gone. It felt like college again. I reminisced when I (sometimes) partied like a rock star on a cleaning lady's salary and then quickly realized why I no longer did. The hangover's a real bitch!
We had our sober faces on.
So while I ventured in to the office on Tuesday, the office's part-time secretary Joan, an older lady, born and raised in Brooklyn, came over to visit me.
"Saw your friend yesterday... Wow did he look good in a suit!"
"Oh yeah?? He's a nice guy, right?"
"I told Ed to hire him just so I could come in and look at him everyday!"
Hopefully, he takes note.
