Everyday for the last two weeks, Gabe has been begging me to make Christmas cookies for Santa and his reindeer. Today we finally got down to business, and baked about 4 dozen cookies. We made all sorts of shapes and sizes: little stars for Mommy to have bite-size "cheats," gingerbread men for Daddy, snowmen for Gabe, little dots for Anna (so she can chew and suck the flavor, then spit out - she's actually getting good at this!), lovely Christmas trees for the reindeer, and a few stocking-shaped ones for Santa. (Gabe was quite meticulous about it all, which I am sure you all find very hard to believe.)
:)
Anna hung out in her chair and played with the wooden roller in between batches. By the end, she realized that if she picked the dough and flour stuck on it, she could sneak a few bites. She of course didn't swallow any, but it was fun watching her explore the different taste and texture and then immediately spit it out, then go in for more.
Tomorrow, we decorate. After 4 hours of baking I was a bit tired and Gabe was running laps through the house in between sets of jumping jacks. He had to have been sneaking bites of cookies when I wasn't looking! As I packed away the cookies for the night, I noticed... A few gingerbread men were missing legs... Some were also headless... And stars were missing a few angles... Yes, we will be icing tomorrow. And then Gabe will go run a marathon.
