We're out of the normal range of groceries I usually purchase. But our pantry is brimming with canned goods I need to use, so I am thinking out of the bag I guess you could say. The elusive expiration dates are approaching and with "the way this economy is going" I can't bare the thought of tossing out something I bought but just forgot to consume. Chicken noodle soup, anybody?
So I quote "the way this economy is going" because while the economic forecast is pretty pessimistic and all that anyone is talking about as of late, I don't know a whole lot about it. I tend to shy away from things on the depressing side, especially money things. I hate talking about money, and the fact that this "economic downturn" is spiraling further south, well, I just quit talking about it. So Manny, if you are reading this, let me know when I can do our grocery shopping. We have about a month's worth of black beans and rice but I don't think my colon can take 29 more days... Or yours, for that matter. One of us is going to end up on the couch at night.
So when I asked Gabe if he was hungry as dinner time was approaching, our conversation went like this:
Gabe: Yes. I want waffles, Mom. Waffles.
Me: We are out of syrup.
Gabe: Serrrrr-Up?
Me: Yes, syrup. I don't think you will like your waffles without syrup.
Gabe: Well, Mom, then you need to go to the store to get the syrup for my waffles.
In the background, Manny busts out laughing.
Me: Excuse me, Gabe??
Gabe: Come on, Mom! You go to the store now.
And just to point out, tonight he got black beans and rice. 28 more days to go...
Just kidding.

That is alot of canned goods....
Why didn't you just run up to the neighbors and get a maple tree?
I make a big pot of soup when I have a lot of canned veggies. tortilla soup? veggies/beef soup? chicken noodle soup with canned carrots? you get the drift!
we eat a lot of black beans around here - we just blame it on the dog ;)
