Quite the Update, Grab A Coffee...

Friday mornings are a nightmare for driving in Manhattan.
Rainy Friday mornings are even worse.
And today was such a day.

I had scheduled Anna's 2-month check-up at 10:30 a.m. We buzzed out of the house thinking we had alloted enough time to get to the West Village (key word: thinking, but not really) and of course, we were late. Luckily we were able to reschedule for a 3 p.m. time-slot, and took the time to run a vital errand: Costco, wholesale heaven.

As we were barely rolling down 3rd Avenue, stuck in bumper-to-bumper, we passed the United Nations on our left. There's a huge U.N. summit going on until next week, and these things make crap traffic even more crappy. I start checking out the NYPD and the important looking suits standing under their Burberry umbrellas (totally jealous) and all of the security and the black tinted cars with license plates that read "Diplomat."

I say to Manny in passing, "I want to be a diplomat."
Gabe asks me from the back seat, "You want to be a tickle mat?"

While we are making our way through the traffic, Anna starts fussing. She begins the "starter whine," the precursor to a meltdown of hunger and car seat annoyance. Before she barely gets out the first 10 seconds, Gabe looks at her and says in the sweetest, kindest voice: "Don't do it, Anna. Just don't do it."

For the grandparents out there, on August 27, her one-month check-up, she weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces. She was still tiny enough where she was less than 3% in weight in her age group. (I explained to a confused Manny that the percentile means if she were put in a room with 100 babies her age, she'd be 1 of the 3 lightest babies.) Today, September 26, one month later and her big two-month check-up, she weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces, putting her between 3-5%. Much success! Her height in August was 20 inches, 10-25%. Her height today: 21.5 inches, 10-25%. Her head? August, 34 centimeters, 3%. Today, 36 cm, 3%.

The doctor was really happy with her progress, and was even happier when I told her she was exclusively breast fed. Quote of the day: "You've got some good stuff in there."

What do I say to that? I smiled and replied, "Why thank you."

By far the hardest part of today was seeing her get her first immunizations. She was supposed to get 4, but I couldn't bare it. We did 2 today and will do 2 next month. But seeing the shock and pain flood her face was the hardest thing ever. No words to explain it. We've been buttering her up all day and steering clear of those lil' thighs, keeping the Infant Tylenol on hand for when she wakes up sore.

Other than that, it was a great day and we had our first play date too. (Yes, today was insanely busy.) Gabe's bud Luca came over to play with his trains and I had some fellow Mommy time with Luca's mom, who is 4 months pregnant. It was so fun to get in some Mama Chat while the boys played trains. Gabe is a bit Type A and a tad bit bossy, hmmmm... No comments, please. It required 1 or 2 slight interventions, but nothing major.

Well, I think I've said enough. I am blogging with the debates in the background and think it is quite entertaining that Barack called his rival 'Jim' and 'Tom' and all this time I thought his name was John!

That is great news about Anna's weight, What a difference!!! She is going to be able to get into her 3mo Baptism outfit with no problem, and look stunning!!! I was going to comment on the other blog about her arms and cheeks fiiling up nicely. Can't wait to see her.

Anna is so cute and growing nicely. Sounds like Gabe is a typical child. Have fun on those play dates you still have control.
