I Looooove Me Some Mondays

Article interviewees! Please answer your phones! I have a fast approaching deadline!

Today I survived my first Monday of getting Gabe ready with a healthy breakfast (oatmeal!), dropping him off at school (our first 40 degree morning in months!), rushing home with Anna to change her (stinky gal!), feed her (and a hungry one!), burp her, lay her in her Papasan chair (her favorite!), and set up shop at the kitchen table where I had two articles and around 150 photos to edit and send off to my editor by the end of the day. The stress was heightened, especially since I was banking on Anna sleeping a good stretch but alas she was a bit high maintenance... But, No complaints here... We got it all written, proofread, edited, proofread again, finalized, e-mailed with batches of good photos, and sent off to the office... All by 4 p.m.! My thank-you's to the people who didn't avoid the reporter looking for information!

So I thought I'd share the sad, sad news that we spent our last Saturday evening with Robin and Rob this past weekend. Robina has been one of my best buds since our college days at Franciscan, and Rob is her fiance who has become our dear friend, too.

Robin has been like a sis to me during our two and a half years living in NYC together, so it's going to be ridiculously lonely without her living 3 blocks away from us. She's heading to D.C. where Rob lives and where they'll make their home after they get married in January. I am super excited for them, except for that whole "But I'm losing my best bud!!!"

One of my favorite Robina stories goes back to when we were in college. I had just moved in next door and didn't realize that only a cheap plaster wall separated my room from hers. (It was a duplex.) I was blaring, I mean, Blaring, my stereo as I set up my new room. On top of the music, I was also hammering up posters and pictures. The time was about oh... 3 a.m. All of a sudden my cell phone rings. It's Robin.
"Uh Stef..."
"Hey Robin! I'm just getting my room together! Want to come over?" (completely oblivious)
"Actually Stef, I'm sleeping..."
"Oh, I'm sorry! What do you need?" (still, completely oblivious)
"Can you turn down your radio and maybe stop pounding on the walls?"
"Oh.... (laughing hysterically) Sorry bud!"

Come to think of it, on Nov. 1 when she pulls away in a U-Haul, I may just be taking out a Classifieds ad for a new best bud.

Requirements: Funny, Honest, Catholic, Love of dirty Greygoose martini's, Willing to clean my entire apartment when I need(ed) an emergency C-section (even my husband's nasty bathroom floors thinking it was MY bathroom) so that it would be spotless when I got home from the hospital, Keep secrets of random embarrassing moments of pregnancy and post-preg flatulence, Girl talk, Sometimes guy talk, Love of The Office and all things Michael Scott, Must make a mean lasagna, Enjoy red wine, Hold me accountable for going to Sunday Mass, Power walker, Great with babies, Actually notice when I get my hair highlighted without me mentioning it, Understand the ups and downs of young married life and not always take my side, Drive a purple gray Honda with purple tinted windows and a broken tail light (Texas plates a plus), Like me even when I am at worst, Be able to complain about the negatives of NYC-living and then rave about the positives of NYC-living - all within the same conversation, Be quirky and hilarious. Oh, and the Last Requirement for my Classifieds ad best bud: Promise to NEVER move away! (Until I do, anyway!)

Sounds like a day of mixed emotion!!
Just think you will have a place to stay when visiting DC especially when the kids get old enough to appreciate.

What a wonderful tribute to Rob & Robin! The sentiments, I know, are sincerely returned to you and your family. You're all very special people!

I am Cheri's Mom, and Rob's grandmother. I enjoyed your article, and hope you can look at it, as a nice memory. At my age, you look at all your friends, the ones that made a difference in your life, and I'm sure this will be high on your list. We thank the Lord for Robin, and hope I can make it to their wedding also.

As a parent, I am so thankful for friends like Rob and Robin to befriend, love, and watch over you and Manny. You have been blessed to have them so close, don't let the miles separate what you all have together. GodSpeed Rob & Robin!!

Is it weird that I am crying in my office after reading this? I am soo bummed to be leaving you, the plaza lounge and your wonderful family! But Jodi is right, there is a reason Rob and I got a two bedroom apartment in DC, so you can come visit! Also, thanks for the great job on the Celebration of Life story, since you were writing that on Monday. This is robin by the way.....

I think that Robin will make a great wife and mother, she is so loving. I second Connie, it has been so comforting for us knowing that you have a friend like her in New York where you have no family. But DC is only a couple of hours away... they can still visit you and you can go visit them for the weekend !! May God bless you and your marriage, Robin and Rob.
