The Honeymoon's Over

After an infestation of a biting bug (or bugs) that turned Gabe's forehead into a gargoyle at the beginning of October, we bravely led an infantry of bug-killers and vinyl zip-up mattress covers into his room and wiped out the Bugiban. While we sprayed his room with, essentially, bug poison, I wanted him to sleep in our room for a few nights. So he did, but a few nights turned into many nights, where he slept on an air bed on our floor for almost a month.

Until two weeks ago, when he decided he wanted to go back to his room. Manny and I rejoiced at the idea and off he went. Then, Saturday night, Manny and I went on a date for the first time in months. Read: Months. We found an amazing babysitter named Aspasia who we met through Gabe's gymnastics and Gabe loves her so much he refers to her as "friend."

"Hey friend! Come see my trains!"
"Hey friend! Let's go play!"
"Bye, friend!"

Ok, the point is (hopefully) across. Well, Manny and I returned from our night of no kids (amazing) and were immediately thrown into parent-911. Gabe woke up screaming with a night terror and Anna wanted fed. (Both must have "the parents are back" radar as each demaded our full one-on-one attention.) Anna ended up sleeping in between the two of us and Gabe ended up back on the bedroom floor. I tend to look at this with a bit more humor, but Manny wants his bedroom, and his wife, back.

Then last night, Anna's week and a half of through the night sleeping bliss ended. Every two hours she wanted up. So I held her while I slept. Then she wanted to nurse. A few seconds later she would be done. I had a raging headache at 3 a.m. from lack of sleep. My REM cycles were no where to be found. I was a nursing, diaper-changing zombie.

Manny put his foot down.

"This is ridiculous. She just wants to be held. You can't spend all night holding her in our bed. You'll be useless tomorrow. Put her down and just let her cry."

I wanted to let him lead. But she's so cute! I can't let her cry! But I decided to bite the beast. And she ripped roared and cried. I miraculously slept through it (utter exhaustion is good for that), Manny tossed and turned, and Gabe covered his head with his three blankets and buried his head into his pillow. The whole fam, in our bedroom. The whole fam, no bliss, because of Anna.

So Manny wheeled her out into the living room. And she cried, until I went to get her. We nursed for 5 minutes for the 5th time that night (so annoying) and there, she ended up back in my arms, back in our bed.

I think that's when Manny took her, burped her, and put her down. It's now 8 a.m., we are about to head off to school, and there she is... Sleeping so angelically. If only the rest of us were only so lucky.

Aw the joys of getting the little one to sleep all night!! My suggestion take Gabe back to his room. Wheel Anna to the living room at night and let her cry until you feel she needs to be fed. She was sleeping all night until now, all she wants to do is cuddle. BE STRONG!! no matter how cute. Get your room and your sleep, and your privacy back!! I love you...

Sounds like she takes after one her cousins. Ashlee was awful and still is, although better.
The "let her cry" is hard but it is the only way.
