I didn't post this as soon as I probably should have, mainly because I've been in disbelief the last few days and letting it sink it in, wondering if it really happened. Doubting Thomas is such a mean man sometimes.
Before we left for Florida, I would say Sunday evening or so, we were all at home and just finished the rather large task of bathing both chili beans and getting them dressed before becoming too cold. I had to run to the kitchen to get some meds for Anna and she was acting very, very impatient. When Anna is over-tired and ready for you to get your act together so she can go to bed, you'll hear a lot of grinding and a lot of sounds... Sometimes I help her with the dialogue as she is grinding, sounding, grinding, babbling, grinding, laughing, grinding, yelling, grinding. It's also accompanied by her eyes going cross-eyed and arms and feet flailing all over the place. It's as if she sets into motion every movable muscle on her body to convey, "Hurry up already!!"
I tell her for the umpteenth time, "Mommy's going as fast as she can!" as I ready her bedtime routine which includes saline solution, gauze pads, antibiotic cream, split drainage pads, medical tape, diapering, a prepped feeding tube, the night's dose of melatonin and her blanket, not to mention an attempt at taming her crazy curly locks.
Manny is in the room, too, helping Gabe prep for night time, and Anna is - quite frankly - pissed. Then, Manny hears her yell: "Ommy!" I chalk up the noise to her impatience. (I have no idea who she has inherited this from. Ah hem.) Then he notes, "I think she just said 'Ommy' as in 'Mommy.'"
I don't believe it. I tell him, "You're hearing things."
Then again. (I must've still been taking too long.) "OMMY!"
Oh dear Lord. Perhaps we are nuts for not believing her the first time. Doubting Thomas, you mean man. I grab the YES and NO buttons.
"Did you just say 'Mommy' Anna?"
She gives me a look for the record books, like, "I can't believe you need to ask me this with a button!" as she reaches for YES and hits it a multitude of times.
Ommy it is! And how amazing... She is. And how ridiculous I am for doubting!
