AAC Training for Miss A

Most of the members of Anna's Awesome Team being trained on her new AAC devices.
(Augmentative and Alternative Communication for you typical people.)
:)
From left, Kasia (afternoon ABA teacher), Suzette (morning ABA teacher), Oksana (speech therapist), Becca (our AAC guru), me, MaryAnne (speech) and of course, the star of the show, Miss Anna Banana.
This past Monday, 5 of Anna's 7 therapists came over for a special training with a speech pathologist from YAI in midtown Manhattan to check out the latest gadgets we were approved for to help Anna communicate. These included a Tech Talk, an eye gaze board, fun computer games, a switch, and Boardmaker

It's all a bit overwhelming right now but each day gets a little easier.

Right now she is happiest with using her Yes and No buttons but I have a feeling that as she gets older and more comfortable with these new tools, she is going to be much happier and much less frustrated. It also helps me and Daddy a lot, so that instead of asking her 20 questions when she's sick with Yes and No answers, she can look at different pictures at the same time and land on the photo that explains her discomfort. It will open up all kinds of possibilities. Right now, we are starting with a SICK board, a FOOD board, and an ACTIVITIES/FUN board. Included on the FUN board are photos of music, a book to read, singing, and a few other favorites of hers, and she is "getting" it pretty quickly.

Exciting stuff!
